Theatre Etiquette & FAQs

Etiquette

Because performances begin on time, please ensure that you arrive at The Smith Center at least 30 minutes in advance. Seating is at the discretion of front-of-house staff and latecomers may not be seated while a performance is in progress.

We encourage everyone to remain in their seats for the entire performance. If you must leave, please exit during intermission. If it is an emergency, kindly wait for an appropriate break in the performance.

In hopes that all our guests have the most enjoyable time possible, we ask everyone to refrain from talking or whispering during the performance. Once seated, please turn off all cell phones, pagers, alarms and other electronic devices. Photography and recording of any kind is not permitted. Please no food or drinks unless otherwise specified. If a cough drop is necessary, try to unwrap as quietly as possible.

While Nevada Ballet Theatre welcomes any child who can remain sitting in a quiet manner through a two-hour performance, we recommend that children be at least 5-years-old to attend mixed-repertory season performances and at least 3-years-old to attend The Nutcracker. We request that no infants be brought to a performance.

Before attending a performance with children, we encourage you to help children differentiate between live performances and on-screen movie theater viewings and to introduce the story and music compositions they will hear. Please remind children to not talk or ask questions once the performance begins and to not touch or kick the seat in front of them.

Lap-sitting is not allowed, and everyone who enters the theater must have a ticket and occupy their respective seat. Booster seats for children are provided free of charge and can be requested by locating an usher or front-of-house staff. Kindly step outside if your child is creating a disturbance during the performance. Parents may consider selecting an aisle seat in case a quick exit is necessary. Also, please note that there are not refunds, credits or exchanges if you must leave the theater because your child was unhappy or disruptive.
