Engaging Students in Innovative Ways

NBT Artistic Director Roy Kaiser chats with Academy Instructor Dodie Askegard about the innovative new ways classes are being conducted this year, both in person and virtually. Dodie shares insight into her new teaching strategies as well as the endless enthusiasm ANBT students have shown in their continued pursuit of excellence.

Virtual Summer of Dance

Each year ANBT’s students are able to continue their dance training through the summer. ANBT’s Summer Programs include two Summer Prep Weeks, in which students in Pre-Ballet 1 through Ballet C2 can get back in shape, and then two weeks of Summer Intensive when students continue their training with instructors who know them, their history, and the progress they have made.

This summer ANBT embarked upon its first ever Virtual Summer Intensive with students connected to instructors remotely. It was a tremendous success as students logged in, danced on and never wavered from their dedication to excellence.

Enjoy this Insights program on Alice (in Wonderland) as NBT Director of Education and Outreach Terané Comito hosts a discussion with eight Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre students cast in the production, along with ANBT Instructor Kelly Cabrera.

NBT’s Insights programs are educational pre-performance discussions offering patrons an opportunity to further engage with the ballet they are about to see. These informative discussions are hosted by special guests with unique points of view on the upcoming performance and are augmented with multi-media presentations, Q&A sessions and more.

Photo Album: Alice (in Wonderland)

Every once in a while NBT redefines what it means to be blown away by a ballet performance. Such was the case in 2018 when NBT staged a spectacular production of Septime Webre’s Alice (in Wonderland). This thrilling, visually explosive and wildly entertaining production showcased the talents of NBT Professional Company Artists as well students from NBT’s Academy.  The results kept Las Vegas buzzing for months. Behind-the-Scenes: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

In 2014 NBT presented Act I of George Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, staged by Balanchine Trust Répétiteur Sandra Jennings, with Academy students performing alongside our Professional Company Artists. In this Behind-the-Scenes look we hear from Ms. Jennings as she talks about her journey from Balanchine student to emissary and teacher of his choreography. Students from the Academy share their thoughts on being in a professional production and the privilege of learning Mr. Balanchine’s masterful choreography from Ms. Jennings.
