ALL THAT JAZZ
Balanchine, Robbins, and the Return of A & A’s Ghost Light
Winter brings three dynamic works including the red-hued and lightning quick Rubies, where George Balanchine’s brilliant steps are illuminated by Stravinsky’s dynamic and jazz-like rhythms.
The influential work of Jerome Robbins will shine again this season in N.Y. Export: Opus Jazz. Lauded for both his ballet and Broadway credits, this energetic work–featuring dancers in sneakers(!), moving through a cool, post-war New York City–debuted shortly after West Side Story appeared on Broadway.
Rounding out the program is the return of Ghost Light (Ripples in the fabric of existence), by the creative duo of A & A, Alexis Ochin and Arnaud Boursain. Pushing the boundaries of dance and theatrical spectacle, this extraordinary work is back by popular request.
