Under the direction of NBT Artistic Director Roy Kaiser, the Professional Training Program is a bridge between the Academy and the Professional Company. A specialized program for pre-professional dancers, it is designed to further develop technique, strength and artistry.
 

OVERVIEW
Nevada Ballet Theatre is located on the west side of Las Vegas in the beautiful Summerlin neighborhood. The company is housed in a 36,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility, featuring eight studios with sprung floors, a large studio that can be converted to a performance space, dancer kitchen, locker rooms, and comfortable lobby.

Within walking distance of the NBT studios you will find the Summerlin Library, a 24-Hour Fitness facitlity, a US Post Office, a grocery store, Starbucks, and many quaint shops and eateries. The Summerlin neighborhood is suburban, with wide sidewalks and tree-lined streets, making it an ideal place for biking to and from NBT each day.

Being a part of the internationally renowned Las Vegas community, NBT dancers enjoy all the city has to offer: museums, sporting events stage productions on the famous Las Vegas strip, hiking at Red Rock National Park or skiing on beautiful Mt. Charleston.

NBT’s Trainees receive the unique opportunity to perform on an expansive stage with state-of-the-art technology. As the Resident Ballet Company of The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, NBT presents its main stage productions in the extraordinary 2,050-seat Reynolds Hall. This nationally renowned performing arts center rivals the finest opera houses, concert halls, and performance venues around the world and is one of the most artistically inspiring places for young artists to hone their professional talents.
 

PERFORMANCES
Throughout the year Trainees enjoy the valuable opportunity to be cast in many of NBT’s Professional Company productions at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, including the annual holiday production of The Nutcracker.

Trainees will also enjoy performance opportunities at other locations across the Las Vegas Valley. Each Spring, Trainees are cast in a stage adaptation of the book Gwendolyn the Graceful Pig, a production performed as part of NBT’s Education and Outreach department’s annual In-School Performance Program. Each Spring and Fall they will perform variations, ensemble pieces or choreography work in the Academy Showcase in-studio performance. And, at the end of the school year, Trainees perform in the annual Spring Concert production at The Smith Center.
 

THE CURRICULUM
The ANBT Training Program curriculum includes technique, pointe, partnering, variations/repertoire, Pilates, strength/conditioning, and choreography. Participants attend a weekly seminar in which they study Ballet History, choreography, nutrition, and other topics vital to the dance profession. In early September, Trainees attend a workshop/seminar in Career Planning, in which they perfect their resumes, prepare for auditions, and receive one-on-one guidance.

Trainees are encouraged to attend Master Classes which are scheduled for the Academy throughout the year. Additionally, Trainees have the opportunity to assist with Academy classes, allowing them to gain valuable experience in dance pedagogy.

Upon completion of NBT’s Professional Training Program, dancers should be well prepared and have the tools to be versatile and well-rounded professionals in an ever-changing dance world.
 

AUDITIONS
Dancers are chosen through an audition process based on their potential to pursue a career in professional Ballet. To submit audition materials, please follow these guidelines:

• A headshot
• A photo in first arabesque
• A video with no introductions or fancy editing, performed in leotard and tights for women and tight-fitting dance attire for men, which includes the following:
• 3-5 minutes of barre work (including plies, tendus, rond de jambe, adagio, and grand
• battement) incorporating both sides, danced in soft shoes by male applicants and pointe
• shoes by female applicants
3-5 minutes of centre work (including adagio, pirouettes, petit and grand allegro)
• danced in pointe shoes by female applicants
• A classical variation is highly recommended.
